Salvador and Gallery
With almost three million inhabitants, Salvador is the third largest city in Brazil after Sao Paulo and Rio. It is surrounded by the sea and is located in the middle of the country in the state of Bahia. Salvador is a liberal city, there are gay discos, saunas, bars and intence public life on the streets and squares. Because of Salvador's location, there is a wide variety of beaches. The "Praia do Flamengo", in the immediate vicinity of which the villa is located, is considered the most beautiful beach and is a popular destination. There are countless small restaurants and drink stands right on the beach. A visit to the historic old town is an absolute must, but there are also great excursion destinations in the surrounding area. The climate is pleasantly warm all year around 26˜30 degrees, high season is the Brazilian holiday season in December and January.
The annual highlight is the Carnival at the end of February. Besides Carnival in Rio, the Salvador Carnival is the largest street carnival in the world and lasts six days and six nights. Up to Ash Wednesday, one and a half million people stream through the 19 kilometers along the promenade and through the city. All streets will be close for Carnival. Big trucks with loudspeakers the size of a shipping container drive through the city and on top of them the stage of a music group. And hundred of thousand fans dance along the streets.
